My Swing Model
My swing model has been developed around what I feel are the most important areas of the golf swing. These areas include setup, width, swing plane, coil, lag, extension, sequence and tempo. My swing model is centered around the belief that the more variables there are in a swing the more practice is needed to keep it working; while the fewer variables there are, the more consistent and less practice is needed to keep it working.

The swing has many moving parts and can be a very inconsistent motion because of this. The swing is an athletic motion and takes strength, flexibility, coordination, balance, and timing. Finding a swing that works consistently for the student is the goal, and I have achieved this goal by keeping things simple, working on what is important, and being realistic when setting goals and expectations. I want to help a student develop a swing that feels comfortable that the student can call his own. When a student comes to me for instruction, I want to provide him or her with the knowledge needed to understand how and why we are going to change their swing. I try to present this knowledge using various training aids, technology, and reinforcement tools.

The swing model that I promote with students should be a common thread throughout their entire game regardless of the yardage or situation. For example, understanding coil will not only help a student hit a powerful drive it will also help him control a 50 yard wedge into a green. Understanding lag and extension will not only help a student hit longer drives with a free flowing swing; it will also help him develop more touch and feel around the greens. A solid pre-shot routine from the tee or the fairway will help a student concentrate on the task at hand and hit more fairways and greens. The same routine followed under pressure while stroking a three foot putt will put the student at ease and will focus his concentration, helping him to become a better putter.
