Technology today is a very important part of the improvement process because if the right equipment is put into the golfer's hands, the game can become much more enjoyable for him or her. Today's equipment is undoubtedly the best the game has ever seen and because of the latest regulations and limitations on the performance of a club head and golf ball, equipment might not advance much further.

Golfers will not hit the ball farther solely because of the design of a new golf club. The rules of golf governing ball and club design prevent this from happening, but equipment manufactures will, however, try to produce more forgiving clubs that are much easier to hit. A club can be made easier to hit when it allows a golfer to make less than perfect contact while still managing to produce only a fraction less ball speed.

Although the rules now limit club head and ball performance, innovations in head geometry, shaft design, grip materials, and fitting techniques will continue to change the face of equipment technology in the years to come.
